The Return of a Superstar: Sid the Kid is Back

The moment we have all been patiently waiting for this season is finally here, Sidney Crosby is back! Tonight will mark the 1st time that Crosby has stepped onto the ice with the Pittsburgh Penguins since January 5th! That is almost a full calendar year, which is way too long to go without the world’s best player.

Crosby has been out with a concussion, after taking headshots in consecutive games vs the Capitals and the Lightning. I remember seeing Sid get hit by Hedman, and thinking that he would be fine. The thought didn’t even cross my mind that it would be almost a year before I would get to see him play again. But as long as the wait was, the hard part is over. All we have to do now, is sit back, watch, and enjoy! For those of you who don’t remember, Crosby was in the midst of the best season of his career before going down with the injury. In 41 games last season, he had 32 goals, and 66 points. That was a pace of 64 goals and 132 points, which would have been the most dominant season since Mario Lemieux in 1995-1996! It’s hard to believe that Crosby will jump back in and start back where he left off last season, as he will probably take a while to get back into the swing of things. However, having said that, I wouldn’t be shocked if Crosby comes out tomorrow night and had a multi-point game. He is just flat out that good, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t take him as long to get back on track as some people think.

Crosby was afforded the liberty to take his time healing because the Penguins were playing excellent hockey without him. They are currently tied for 1st place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 11-6-3. Adding Sidney Crosby into the mix of a team playing this well, will only make them better. So look out NHL because Sid the Kid is back, and the Penguins will remind opponents quickly why they are a team to be reckoned with.

Whether you are a Crosby fan or not, the fact is, it’s going to be great to see him back on the ice. No matter who you cheer for, it’s never good to have one of the game’s best players sitting in the press box. So tomorrow night, if you can, watch the Penguins vs the Islanders, because the world’s best player is set to return. The whole hockey world will be watching for this moment that has been almost a year in the making. Enjoy the game!

Prediction: Penguins 4-1 (Crosby 1 goal, 1 assist)
