Movember Madness!! - Help Support One of Our Own

Hockey has history with facial hair. There is the legendary playoff beard, a tradition started by the 1980’s New York Islanders who went on to win 4 Stanley Cups in that period. Islanders netminder Denis Potvin has been quoted as being unsure to whether it was superstition or just because players would play 4 games in 5 days back then as to how this started but it has been continued by players and fans alike ever since.

Then there is Movember. Not just embraced by the Hockey world but the world in general. Set up originally in 1999 by a group of Australian’s to raise awareness for Men’s Health issues it has continued to grow year upon year.

The idea is basically to start the month of November cleanly shaven and then grow a moustache for the next 30 days whilst gathering donations towards the charity. No cheating allowed however, no full on beards or goatees – this must be a proper and genuine moustache!

Many hockey stars will no doubt be taking part in Movember to help raise awareness  of the charity and to raise money for it at the same time. Even the king of the moustache – George Parros has shaved his off at the start of the month in time for the Movember Moustache madness to begin!

Well, I am laying down a challenge to the NHL players – I have also decided to take part in this event in an attempt to raise money for such worthy causes as testicular cancer, prostate cancer and depression.
Follow me as I attempt to grow what I can only hope will be half as an amazing stache as what I'm sure will be seen over the coming month.
