After picking up a ton of momentum in their 5-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday, the Isles were outshot by a final of 36-26, while the defense could not hold the offensive barrage of the reigning champions.
Boston opened up the scoring at the 1:32 mark of the first period, when Benoit Pouliot recorded his first goal in a Bruins’ uniform for the early lead. Matt Moulson (3) tied it up for the Isles at the 5:52 mark, connecting on a 21 foot tip-in.
Nathan Horton (3) and Tyler Seguin (8) scored within a minute apart to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. Michael Grabner cut into the lead at the 18:36 mark on a 20 foot wrister, assisted by John Tavares (5) and Moulson (4).
The Bruins tallied three unanswered goals in the third period to cap off the victory. Boston was led by David Krejci, who has had back-to-back three-point games after going scoreless in his previous six.
Starting in the cage for New York was Evgeni Nabokov, who allowed three goals on 12 shots before being pulled for Al Montoya 12:40 in the game. Montoya made 21 saves in the rest of the game in the cage for the Islanders.
New York will get two days off before facing the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. The game is scheduled to air on the MSG Plus network with face-off slated for 9:00 p.m.
